Woorgreens Nature Reserve in the Forest of Dean

We came across this purely by accident but Woorgreens Nature Reserve is our newest favourite place in the Forest of Dean!

Woorgreens Nature reserve is absolutely beautiful and relatively hidden away, happened across it during one of our woodlands running sessions through the forest.

It can be accessed via different routes, one being mid way between the Speech House and the Dilke Hospital but for us it was about half a mile from Steam Mills on the main Cinderford to Monmouth road. Turn left and follow a sumwhat bumpy track for 50 metres or so, you will eventually see a tarmac road that leads off to the right through the forest. The first section of the road Is tarmac and meanders through the forest for a mile or so, then an area scrubland and low trees where there are Exmoor ponies and Longhorn Cattle (all friendly) follow one of the many tracks to the bottom and the Nature Reserve lies just beyond.

Hopefully the pictures say it all!

Beechenhurst and Sculpture trail in the Forest of Dean

We wanted to share a few of our favourite places to visit in the Forest of Dean and we are starting with

Beechenhurst Lodge

  Beechenhurst Lodge is owned by the the Forestry Commission and we feel has something for everyone.

Not only is it a wonderful grassy open space surrounded by woodland it has an interesting sculpture trail to follow, an adventure play area, a junior version of ” Go Ape” and a climbing wall.

For the slightly less adventurous it have a café and a great outdoor barbecue area.

A firm family favourite for us ever since childhood and we still love it here!

Visit England Gold Award for Nuthatch Cottage.

We are delighted to announce that Nuthatch Cottage has received the Gold Award from Visit England. We have all worked extremely hard to reach this milestone.

Now we’ve got to work even harder to hang on to it. 🙂

Here’s what the Visit England assessor said;

Nuthatch Cottage continues to offer comfortable very well maintained accommodation for its market. The Proprietors are to very much to be commended on the continued investment and maintaining of standards helping ensure that the cottage sits comfortably in the Four Star Self catering rating band. Sectional Consistency scores also being well met overall

As on previous visits, although overall spacial aspects are quite compact, the quality of the cottage as a whole is really very high. With the full redecoration and new high quality linen it is a pleasure to also recommend that a Gold Award be confirmed for the coming year, reflecting the care and investment afforded by the Proprietors. Fully deserving and for which the Proprietors are to be congratulated. It is also understood that the Proprietors feel the current rating meets well with the market expectations and business levels catered for and we wish them all the very best for a successful and prosperous coming year.

A new website for Nuthatch Cottage
